After tooling around on the net I've seen a ton of varying reports of battery life after the iPhone 2.2 update. From my personal experience I've been getting about double what I had before, with fetch set to 15 minutes and WiFi on constantly. it used to get about 20-24 hrs on it with WiFi off, but with the 2.2 update I get about 45-48 hrs with WiFi on constantly. I also use the iPod functionality constantly. I let it go it until it's dead too (I don't run for a charger when it hits 20%).

We've all seen the crappy job Apple has been doing with thermal pasting the MacBook Pro. I noticed my idle temps sitting at about 57ºC on my Santa Rosa MBP, so I decided to undertake repasting the the heatsink. Removing the logic board wasn't all that challenging; if you're used to pulling small electronics apart it's no trouble. After pulling it out of the machine this is what I found: |

So I've been using SpanningSync and I enrolled in their Save 5 + Make 5 program. It's a great program for syncing iCal and Address Book with their Google counter parts. If you use these to organize everything (as I do) and you don't want a MobileMe account this is the way to go. Plus things you do in Google Calendar automatically get put back in your iCal (on as many computers as you have). You can get $5 off by entering the discount code: EA6YEB or you can just click the link below: |

All in the name of money .. err I mean national security: http://www.news.com.au/travel/story/0,26058,24089084-5014090,00.html I'm sure all those ripped DVDs and music are a vital threat to national security. Unfortunately even ripping your own DVDs is piracy under the DMCA. So if you've used Handbrake to put your collection of Futurama DVDs on your iPod you'll be facing several thousand dollars worth of fines. Granted the source is in Australia but it's been rumored to be in the works in the US too. |

In my never ending quest to find something to do (this time actually related to future goals) I've started working on figuring out this general purpose GPU computation thing. |

Looks like folks in Beaumount, TX are going to be Time Warner's guinea pigs for their new tiered service: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080603-40gb-for-55-per-month-time... Even if you're not doing anything illegal 40GB isn't a lot. Podcasts, streaming music, and online movie rentals will chew through that fairly quickly. Plus if you share a connection with another person (as a lot of us do) 40GB will go by rather fast. I hope this fails in testing, although it probably won't as the average internet user won't really complain about it. |

With the latest Boot Camp 2.1 update Apple released a good deal of new drivers for their existing hardware for Windows XP, Vista X86 and Vista X64. Apple only supports Vista X64 on their latest Mac Pros (Clovertown) and MacBooks (Penryn) however. For some unknown reason they don't "support" X64 on older Mac Pros and MacBook pros that are capable of running it (the are no hardware differences between the Penryn and Santa Rosa MacBooks outside of the processor core and little more graphics memory). |

It seems Obama is on a roll with his endorsements lately. I've been an Obama supporter since he started running. I agree with Mr Munroe here, I really feel like I want to vote for Obama because I genuinely like his policies. I don't feel like I'm picking the lesser of two evils. Plus, he seems to be the only candidate with his head on straight with regards to technology policy. Obama might not all knowledgeable but he surrounds himself with people who are in the know instead of industry lobbyists. That, alone, is worth my respect. |
